POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under direction of an assigned administrator, plan, organize, and direct programs to: ensure that children are ready to enter kindergarten as measured by the state’s readiness standards; provide an efficient and effective Pre-School and School Age child care, and offer a full range of services in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment; complement the elementary program academically in the School Age program by targeting the standards by grade level that have most leverage; and engage, educate and support parents in their role as advocates for their children in the public school system.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: E = Essential Duties The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. - Direct and supervise the activities of all Children’s Center personnel in the performance of their duties E
- Evaluate the performance of all assigned personnel E
- Administer the operation of the Children’s Center and supervise the Center’s educational programs (Pre-School, School Age, Transitional/Kindergarten)E
- Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school E
- Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and discipline procedures E
- Adapt a program of education for the school to meet the unique needs of the community served E
- Assume responsibility for the general health, welfare, safety, and attendance of students E
- Coordinate or supervise necessary support services E
- Administer the school’s budget and monitor expenditures of funds E
10. Develop a public relations program to further community understanding and support E
11. Utilize community resources to develop an effective educational program E
12. Implement Board policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to the Children’s Center E
13. Promote and encourage professional growth of self and staff E
14. Prepare all applicable local, state, and federal reports, requirements and services such as staff-child ratios, attendance accounting, square feet per child requirements, fire safety and health standards, social services referrals, preschool education, parent involvement, state quarterly reports, local reports, state and federal annual reports, etc E
15. Supervise the certification and semi-annual re-certification of children in accordance with guidelines E
16. Develop, prepare and manage annual budgets E
17. Analyze and review budgetary and financial data E
18. Monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with established guidelines E
19. Utilize computer spreadsheet software programs E
20. Be responsible for generating revenues in excess of actual program costs and building appropriate reserves E
21. Oversee school year and year round programs at multiple stand alone or co-located sites E
22. Work collaboratively with Special Education to serve special education students E
23. Develop and prepare all State and Federal reports including enrollment and attendance, assessment and confirmation of family eligibility, desired results profiles, program self-evaluations, California Community Care Licensing, etc. E
24. Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE OF: Group facilitation and problem-solving strategies; applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures; generally accepted standards of health and sanitation; record keeping practices and procedures; knowledge of school district operations and procedures; principles of organization and management; laws, rules, and regulations governing early childhood education and early childhood development programs; regulations governing elements involved in implementing programs related to early childhood education students; budget development, maintenance, and evaluation; funding systems and resources, including grant writing; effective employee supervision and evaluation procedures and techniques; classroom management and reinforcement systems
ABILITY TO: Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills; develop and provide training related to effective practices in all school settings; effectively lead/facilitate group processes; plan and organize work; maintain accurate records and files; work confidentially with discretion; operate computer word processing program and student data system; type; maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; operate common office machines; learn currently used computer applications and programs; interact in a tactful and courteous manner with a diverse community; exhibit the qualities of leadership essential to the successful administration of a comprehensive program of early childhood education and childhood development; speak and write effectively in Standard English; work effectively with all segments of the educational community and general public; analyze problems, make decisions or recommendations, and be responsible for those decisions; rapidly assimilate the facts, conditions, and implications of problems suddenly thrust upon the office and to organize an effective administrative response to them; design and implement procedures; supervise and direct a large staff or department; translate Board and district policy to various employees, individuals and groups; manage time and priorities effectively; plan, organize, coordinate and direct a variety of complex operations within a school site

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear, use hands and fingers; occasionally required to handle, feel or operate objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Child Development Program Director Permit
- At least 5 years teaching experience, preferably Pre-school
- At least 2 years experience in a position requiring management or supervisory skills in Child Care Center programs
- 4. California Administrative Credential desired
